Less Cardio + More Strength=Fat Loss

Cardio = more calories burned! If you are always looking at your fit watch, gaging how good a class is by the amount of calories burned, you may want to rethink that. Our bodies are magnificent machines that adapt to whatever stimulus we give it. If you are new to an exercise program and go from doing nothing to something you will see results! You are moving more and burning more calories. However, the more you continue to do that type of exercise your body becomes more efficient at it! For example, running is hard when you start, the more you train the better you get at it and can run with more distance and speed. Your body also burns less calories and is craving more food after a workout. So the only way you can continue to lose fat would be to train longer and harder, but that isn't always possible or good for you. Over training can cause injury or burning out.

"Lifting heavier weights is going to make me big"

Strength training is going to make me bigger. This is a common myth that is simply not true. Strength training builds lean muscle tissue and creates tone and definition on your body. When you lift weights you don't need to be power lifting , heavy just means that you are feeling a good burn 2-3 reps into an exercise. Time under tension produces muscle change. Strength training 2-3x per week plus eating a clean diet will result in fat loss. Fat loss is a journey, not a quick fix. The next time you go to workout pick up a heavier weight than you thought you could lift and do as many reps as you can with that weight, then put it down and finish set with next size down. Keep pushing yourself and the results will come. Strength training workouts may not boost your fit watches like a cardio class or a run, but the benefits are going to get you the results you have been looking for.

Jackie has always pushed herself to lift weights heavy enough to feel the burn. As a result has always maintained a lean muscle tone.

At Crush Fitness Studios we have a strength portion in every class. We will be encouraging heavier lifting and more strength this month. Remember what is heavy to you may be different from your friend. This is your workout and your time to take care of your body. You only get one. Bodyweight training is also keeping muscles under tension. Classes like barre, banded bodies, and lite & loaded are still challenging your muscles to create tone and definition. Keep challenging yourself in new ways! We will continue providing new and exciting classes to target your muscles in many different ways.
